The Special Investigations Unit is seeking out anyone who witnessed an attempted arrest at the Acton Fall Fair that left a 54-year-old hospitalized and in critical condition.
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) says the officer tried to arrest a 54-year-old following a reported assault in a parking lot near the Dufferin Rural Heritage Community Centre on Park Avenue around 11:20 p.m. on Friday.
“There was an interaction and the man became unresponsive,” the SIU said in its public appeal for witnesses.
At the time, local paramedics transported the man to a hospital in Georgetown.
On Monday, officials said that the man had since been transported to another care centre in Mississauga, where he remains in critical condition.
Investigators believe several individuals were in the area recording the interaction and are asking them to come forward.
The exact details of what transpired remain few, but the SIU has confirmed that a paid, on-duty officer was involved in the incident.
The SIU is a civilian-run oversight agency that carries out criminal investigations into law enforcement agencies across Ontario whenever there is a report of sexual assault or if someone is seriously injured, killed or shot at.
Anyone with information is asked to contact investigators by phoning 1-800-787-8529.
