Indwell acquires former church in east Hamilton for affordable housing project

An old church on King Street East in Hamilton is set to be transformed into an affordable housing project in the near future.

The sale of the former Trinity Lutheran Church near Rosedale Avenue to Indwell was publicly announced on Friday, marking the latest addition to the Hamilton-based Christian charity’s long list of affordable housing programs in the region.

Indwell says that planning remains in its early stages but the Trinity Lutheran Church’s decision to sell the property below market value will allow “over $1 million of improved financing for the future project.”

“As a charity, the church’s generosity helps greatly with the viability of the future project,” Jeff Nevan, Indwell’s CEO said.

Currently, the property houses several community groups that lease parts of the building, which Indwell says will continue for the time being.

“Indwell looks forward to meeting with neighbours through formal and informal meetings throughout the pre-development process,” Nevan added.
