Tuesday marks the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attack on Parliament Hill.
The nation’s capital paused to honour Cpl. Nathan Cirillo, a Hamilton hero and Canadian soldier who lost his life in the line of duty.
Two ceremonies were held throughout the day, one for family and military personnel to pay their respects, and another which was open to the public.
One of Cirillo’s colleagues, who served as captain at the same regiment as Cirillo, said he is missed dearly.
“He showed up here to his duty as expected, to serve his country, and he did it with great honor and pride,” he said.
“He paid the ultimate sacrifice”
The Hamilton native was shot and killed on Oct. 22, 2014 while he was on ceremonial sentry duty at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Ottawa.
The 24-year-old was a loving father, son, brother and friend.
