Thursday marks World Homelessness Day, and YWCA Hamilton’s women’s housing planning collaborative hosted this year’s “Homeless No More” memorial.
The event pays tribute to those who have been lost to housing deprivation and homelessness.
People gathered at City Hall, with pictures of those who have lost their lives to homelessness hung in the forecourt.
Hamiltonians in attendance heard from people with lived experience of housing insecurity.
It was also an opportunity for renewed calls to government bodies for housing solutions and support in the city.
“There’s two pieces to the purpose, the purpose is to give people a space to remember and honour those who have passed away,” an event organizer said.
“Then there’s the purpose of advocacy, and to remind people that we need all governments to be participating and responding to this crisis.”
