The splash pad at Eastwood Park in Hamilton’s north end reopened Thursday, ready in time for the summer heat.
Sarah Jama, independent MPP for Hamilton Centre, met with city staff to unveil a new splash pad at the park near Mary and Burlington streets that was in the works since 2021.
The Eastwood Park project was drawn up to revitalize the park after many years of operation.
The city was able to allocate $378,000 from the Community Building Fund to contribute to the project, which was approved in the city’s 2022 budget.
The aquatic-themed splash pad has a new concrete pad and spray features.
There are new aquatic creature spray rings, a boat wheel, ground jets scattered around the pad and new colours decorating the concrete.
Jama says she hopes the revitalized splash pad will help struggling families deal with the heat of the summer months.
Splash pads are free to use and are open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. until early September.
Residents can find a map of splash pads across the city on its website.
