Hamilton police seize loaded firearm and drugs near Wentworth and Main

​Hamilton police have arrested two individuals after seizing a loaded firearm and illicit drugs this morning in an arrest near Wentworth Street South and Main Street East.

Shortly after 2:30 a.m., officers patrolling the area observed a number of people and suspicious activity around a vehicle.

As the police were questioning the individuals they noticed a male passenger inside the car reaching continuously for his waistband. He then abruptly exited the vehicle and fled the scene on foot.

Officers pursued the man who was found to have a loaded firearm and various illicit drugs, including suspected cocaine, fentanyl and methamphetamine.

Reported to be 26 years of age and from Fenwick, he was arrested on possession of a loaded, prohibited firearm and on a number of ‘possession for the purpose of’ drug charges.

The female driver of the car, a Hamilton resident, was also arrested for possession of certain drugs ‘for a purpose’ and driving a vehicle with cannabis readily available.

The names of the accused will be released once charges have been formally sworn at court.

Both individuals are currently facing multiple charges and are scheduled to appear for a bail hearing later today.
