Police in Halton region say they have arrested and charged a 49-year-old woman from Milton after an investigation into reported cases of identity fraud.
In January, police opened an investigation after receiving reports that a woman was portraying herself as a licensed massage therapist, providing services to a number of unsuspecting individuals.
Officials determined the suspect had been using registration numbers of legitimate massage therapists.
After receiving payment for her services, the suspect would allegedly provide these numbers to her clients for invoices to be submitted to their insurance.
During the course of the investigation, police say they also discovered she was not licensed to conduct other treatments she was allegedly providing, such as physiotherapy and acupuncture.
According to police, the suspect earned $37,000 pretending to be a licensed massage therapist, acupuncturist, and physiotherapist.
On Tuesday, Mahvish Ahmed was arrested. She faces 13 counts of identity fraud, among other charges.
