Halton police warn residents of suspected jewelry swap scam

Halton police are seeking two individuals they believe to be involved in a jewelry robbery in Burlington.

According to officials, an elderly man was in the parking lot of the Navy Club on Industrial Street last Saturday when he was approached by two suspects in a vehicle.

The two individuals allegedly pulled a gold ring from the man’s finger, and a gold chain off of his neck.

Police say what followed was an “unwanted exchange,” where the two suspects handed the man two fake gold pieces of jewelry.

The estimated value of the stolen goods is $2,500.

The man did not suffer any injuries as a result of the run-in.

Halton police say they are working to put together an accurate description of the suspects and their vehicle.

Police believe the suspects are attempting to trade worthless jewelry to unsuspecting people in exchange for their valuable jewelry, and said they are concerned there may be more victims.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to contact the 3 District Criminal Investigations Bureau at 905-825-4777 ext. 2316.
