The Halton police service is sounding the alarm over a game that’s starting to get kids in trouble with the law.
It’s known as the “Assassin Game,” and it has students publicly hunting each other down with nerf-style foam guns — and, in turn, getting the cops called.
Police say that in the past week, they’ve had to respond to four different calls over the game after some of the guns used to stage these fake killings resembled real firearms.
The force says that it’s causing fear among unaware bystanders and prompting an elevated emergency response after they phone in what they see as a real, fully-fledged emergency.
“We recognize that the vast majority of these cases involve young people playing and that no harm is intended,” said Staff Sergeant Ryan Snow.
“In saying this, these activities are resulting in unintended consequences that place participants, members of the community, and first responders at risk.”
Already, charges have been laid against two Georgetown youths who were caught up in this game’s hijinks.
The force says it wants young people to think carefully, make good decisions, and understand the risks associated with playing this game.
