Halton police recover $1M in stolen goods, man arrested

A police raid at a Peel Region storage facility has recovered nearly $1 million in stolen retail goods.

Last Wednesday, Halton police carried out several search warrants at a storage facility being used to stash goods.

Inside the storage unit, they found $489,000 worth of stolen goods that had been plundered from several Shoppers Drug Marts across the Greater Toronto Area.

In addition to the large sum of stolen nicotine replacement gum, cosmetics and muscle creams, they also managed to recover several tractor-trailer loads of goods that had been pinched during thefts in Halton, York and Toronto.

Police say that, in total, the stolen property was worth around $1 million.

The raid was the culmination of a three-month-long investigation into an organized crime ring that had been targeting the pharmaceutical retail chain and led to one man being arrested.

Fifty-two-year-old Pawel Hohne of Toronto has been taken into custody and charged with two criminal charges:

  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000
  • Trafficking in Property Obtained by Crime over $5000
