Halton Hills’ mayor says managing storm effects ‘a challenge’

After the GTHA was hit with severe weather earlier this week, several regions have experienced extreme flooding, and are working to restore normal operations.

Halton Hills’ mayor, Ann Lawlor, released a statement Friday saying “managing the effects of this storm has been a challenge,” but was thankful for emergency officials who have been helping in the aftermath.

The region received more than a month’s worth of rain in one weather event.

Rolling road closures were in place until the water subsided, and some local parks and sports fields were also closed temporarily.

Halton Hills’ town hall experienced flooding, impacting phone lines and some of the community’s online services.

According to the mayor’s statement, over 80 people in the region had basement floods and other property issues.

“I do hope that those who have been impacted are able to get things resolved quickly and that there was not significant damage to your home or property,” Lawlor said.

“I am sure that our resilience will be tested again in the future as we face wilder and wetter weather in the face of climate change and global warming.”
