Fort Erie war veteran celebrates his 109th birthday

Burdett Sisler from Fort Erie celebrated a big birthday on Saturday. Burdett who just turned 109 years old has lived through more events than most of us have even experienced once.

Sisler is the only man who’s lived through two world wars, two pandemics, and two eclipses.

Sisler says there is no secret to living a long life and says just be happy and healthy.

“I never took up smoking at any time, and I only got drunk once, and that was enough.”

Sisler was born in Ohio but moved to Canada when he was 3 years old back in 1918. Sisler served in the Second World War and worked as a customs officer for 30 years.

Sisler bought his first home in Fort Erie on Emerick Street back in 1939 when he was 24 years old. At that time, he was only making 150 dollars a month and paid 600 hundred dollars for his house.
