Dump truck with bin up hits overpass on St. Catharines QEW

Traffic has been snarled along the QEW for the third time this month after a negligent commercial driver left their dump truck’s box up and crashed into an overhead obstacle.

OPP’s Highway Safety Division announced that there would be a lane closure on social media shortly after 7 a.m. Wednesday.

They say that the Fort Erie-bound lane of the Queen Elizabeth Way highway near Jordan Road and Seventh Street has been reduced to a single lane.

“Middle and right lanes closed due to damage to overpass caused by a dump truck with bin up. Left lane open,” the force said, adding that repairs are underway.

The middle and right lanes are expected to reopen around 9:15 a.m.

This is a developing story. Check back for more.

This is the third time a dump truck with its bin up has collided with an overhead obstacle while travelling along the QEW in the last eight days.

Last Friday, the overhead exit sign for Glendale Avenue was destroyed after a forgetful driver ploughed the box of their commercial vehicle through it, leaving the metal structure badly mangled.

On Tuesday, part of the QEW in Mississauga was brought to a near-standstill after traffic needed to be rerouted in both directions when another commercial vehicle drove into a pedestrian bridge after its box was left up.
