The trial for the death of 16-year-old Mark Bistoyong continued in a Hamilton courtroom on Thursday, where family members took the stand to recount the events leading up to the teen’s death.
According to an agreed statement of facts between the defence and the Crown, the teen was killed by his 22-year-old cousin, Laureano Bistoyong.
During the court proceedings, the accused’s brother testified the boys were playing a game of basketball before the stabbing happened, that became out of control.
“It got rough the last game, all of a sudden the energy went to rough, and went to like tackle football,” he said.
The father of the accused also took the stand, saying he heard a commotion coming from the room the boys were in after they returned home from the game.
“I ran upstairs, I saw Lawrence standing in the corner, and I heard people say Lawrence stabbed Mark,” he said.
“I said ‘what did you do, what did you do?’”
Court wrapped up early Thursday afternoon, with the defence expected to make their closing arguments next month.
