CHCH News celebrates 70 years on the air

CHCH News first signed onto the air on June 7, 1954.

Seventy years later, we’re still here — and proud to say that we’re one of the longest-running independent television broadcasters in Canada.

The station started out as a privately operated CBC affiliate. Under the guidance of our founder, legendary Canadian broadcaster Ken Soble, it went independent in 1961.

Since then, the station has been a key source of information for the Hamilton, Halton and Niagara Region — telling the stories that matter to you.

Today, we continue to bring you dedicated news coverage from across the Golden Horseshoe that we’re proud of.

To celebrate our birthday, we’re bringing 70 lucky guests on a station tour during our Morning Live segment between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m.

As part of our dedicated 70th-anniversary programming, we’ve brought back some of your favourite personalities, such as Dan McLean, Connie Smith, and Alex Reynolds, to reflect on our stations’ legacy.
