Burlington residents continue to recover from massive flooding

Residents in a Burlington neighbourhood are still working to recover what they can after devastating floods hit their area last week.

The sounds of pumps and generators can be heard on Cavendish Dr. as people in the area are working tirelessly to dry out what’s left of their property.

Some homeowners received financial compensation, but resident Craig Belliveua says it’s not enough.

“Although $3,000 is helpful, it comes nowhere near the cost that we’re going to have to incur for our house.”

Mayor Marianne Meed Ward says this is an ongoing conversation and that no stone will be left unturned.

“We won’t rest until we understand this better and understand any further investments that we need to make as part of the 2025 budget.”

Mayor Ward also acknowledged that this is a very unfortunate situation but it’s still progress from the last major flood back in 2014.

“Investments that we have made in infrastructure over many decades, including since the 2014 flood. We invested $25 million in creek enhancements digging it deeper and wider so that the water can flow, those creeks worked.”

For a few, it may be weeks or even months before their homes are livable again.
