BRIGHT Run raises over half a million for breast cancer research in Hamilton

Close to 2000 people laced up their sneakers Saturday to not only help a charity reach its fundraising goal but smash its previous record.

For over 16 years, BRIGHT Run has raised more than $5 million right here in Hamilton for breast cancer research.

Nancy McMillan, the chair of BRIGHT Run says, “I was diagnosed with breast cancer 17 years ago. I found the lump myself. I woke up from a dream put my hand here and thought that’s odd. but the dream was of a pink ribbon”.

After months of chemotherapy and thirty rounds of radiation, she’s proud to say she ‘had’ breast cancer. She shared advice for those with a new diagnosis.

“To the cancer patient, listen to your body, don’t stop doing. Your mind is the strongest muscle you have to get through any cancer diagnosis.”

Prizes were awarded for top fundraisers but the huge draw was the record-breaking total.

Over $570,000 was raised on Saturday, over $140,000 past last year’s total, which will benefit the Juravinski Hospital Cancer Centre.
