Brantford police arrest man who barricaded himself, special units investigate

Brantford police arrested a 51-year-old man local man Tuesday who barricaded himself inside a residential building at Brant Avenue near Henrietta Street.

Officers arrived at the scene around 1:30 p.m. after a report of a disturbance to find that a man had barricaded himself in the building.

He refused to surrender to police.

Brantford police Emergency Response Team, negotiators, the Mobile Crisis Rapid Response Team and uniform patrol managed to safely resolve the situation.

The man was taken into custody at approximately 6:40 p.m. and stands charged with the offences of “Utter Threats” and “Assault with Weapon”.

No injuries to the public or police occurred as a result of the incident.

Due to the interaction with officers, the Brantford police notified the province’s Special Investigation Unit which has invoked its mandate to take over the investigation.
