BBQ mishap cause of house fire in Welland

Welland firefighters were called to a home on Lincoln Street after an uncooperative barbecue started a house fire.

The home owner of 504 Lincoln St. contacted emergency services around noon on Sept. 15 to report the blaze.

After a number of unsuccessful efforts to ignite the barbecue it caught fire and quickly spread to the back porch and a rear corner of the house.

Crews arrived on scene to find heavy fire and smoke and conducted an aggressive fire attack from the exterior of the house to bring the blaze under control. They remained on scene working on hot spots and overhaul.

The fire damage is extensive but not yet estimated.
