An investigation has been launched into a fatal fire that took place at a home in St. Catharines last week.
Police say that an adult woman was found dead after fire crews extinguished a blaze at a home near Division Street and Frank Street on Monday.
Authorities were notified of the fire around 6:50 a.m. The first responding fire crews reported that a detached garage at the rear of the home was fully engulfed in flames upon their arrival.
After extinguishing the fire, a woman was pronounced dead at the scene, police say.
The cause of the fire and the extent of the damages to the property remain unknown.
Police say they’re working on the investigation alongside the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office and the coroner’s office.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
