Apartment fire in east Hamilton, no reported injuries

A fire broke out in a three-storey apartment building in east Hamilton last night and the smoke could be seen from blocks away.

The blaze started around 7:30 p.m. at 1257 King Street East, between Glendale Avenue North and Belview Avenue.

Video on social media showed flames and smoke at the back of the building.

Police closed the roads for about three hours around King Street East and Belmont Avenue while firefighters worked at the scene.

There are no details from the fire department on injuries, cause or cost of damage.

According to Hamilton EMS one person refused assessment and transport by paramedics.

The fire is not considered suspicious and police say the fire marshal did not attend the scene.
