21-year-old Hamilton man wanted by police for shooting that struck innocent bystander

One man has been arrested and another remains outstanding following a shooting earlier this month that involved an innocent bystander.

On May 6, multiple witnesses reported hearing gunshots around 11:15 a.m. in an alleyway at King Street East and East Avenue North.

A stray bullet from the shootout grazed a bystander. The 50-year-old man was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and subsequently released.

On Tuesday, police arrested a man and recovered a handgun that was used in the initial shooting.

Patrick Swayze, a 34-year-old man from Hamilton, was taken into custody and charged with multiple firearm offences, including assault, eight counts of failing to comply with a release order, and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order.

A 21-year-old man remains outstanding, and a warrant has been issued for his arrest.

Police say Jonas Campanaro is facing charges of assault with a weapon, criminal negligence causing bodily harm and multiple firearm related offences.
