2 men charged in Niagara human trafficking investigation

Two men have been charged in a human trafficking investigation in Niagara Region.

Officers opened the case last December and identified suspects.

On Thursday, police arrested 47-year-old Wasim Ahmed of Maple and 61-year-old Mohammad Arshad Ghummian of Mississauga.

They’ve been charged with trafficking in persons, procuring, sexual assault, forcible confinement and uttering threats.

Both men were held in custody pending a bail hearing scheduled for Thursday in St. Catharines.

The investigation remains ongoing as detectives believe there may be more victims.
