17-year-old male wanted in stabbing incident: Niagara police

A 17-year-old boy is facing charges after he allegedly stabbed another youth in the chest in Welland Friday afternoon.

First responders were called to the area of Gatfield Avenue and Macinnis Street around 12:30 p.m. for reports of a stabbing.

Upon arrival, crews discovered a boy, age not disclosed, suffering from what paramedics say were life-threatening injuries.

According to Niagara EMS, life-saving measures were performed enroute to an out-of-region hospital where he remains in stable condition.

The male suspect, 17, is wanted for aggravated assault.

Officers are continuing to investigate and anyone with information is asked to contact detectives at 905-688-4111, option 3, extension 1009700.

This marks the third stabbing reported in Welland in less than two weeks.

Last Sunday, police were called to the area of Cottonwood Crescent and Tumblewood Place, where they found a man in his 20s suffering from stab wounds. No arrests have been made in that incident thus far.

Prior to that on March 18, police say a dispute between three people in the area of Leaside Drive and Woodlawn Road led to an 22-year-old man suffering life-threatening injuries in another stabbing incident. Similarly, no arrests have been made at this time.
