International go-kart racing is not for the faint of heart, with racers clocking speeds of over 100 kilometers an hour.
12-year-old Hamilton racer Ryker Magro was drawn to the thrill of the sport and has his sights set on the professional circuit.
He’s competed worldwide, including in Italy, where he snagged the checkered flag.
Today, he’s off to the United States to compete in ROK Vegas, an annual competition featuring top go-kart racers from around the world.
Ryker started driving go-karts at five years old; it’s a family tradition.
“My dad started in karts, so he got my brother a go-kart,” Ryker explained. “When he got him one, I wanted one too. I ended up getting one when I was six.”
Robert Magro, Ryker’s dad, explains that legally, you can’t race in Canada until you’re at least six years old, so Ryker practiced early and became highly competitive.
For now, Ryker will enjoy his time at the track, dreaming of the day he can become a Formula One race car driver.
