1 dead, 1 seriously injured after wrong-way crash on highway in Milton

One person is dead and another has been seriously injured after a wrong-way driver crashed into oncoming traffic in Milton.

Police say they were called to a two-vehicle collision in the eastbound lane on Highway 401 near Guelph Line around 3:30 a.m. Sunday.

According to investigators, a 28-year-old woman from Milton was pronounced dead at the scene after she collided with another vehicle while travelling westbound in the eastbound lanes.

Police say the vehicle she struck was being driven by a 22-year-old man from Brampton.

He was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition.

The eastbound lanes of the highway were closed at Guelph Line for several hours but have since re-opened.
