Worker hospitalized after accident at water treatment plant in Burlington, Ont., has died

The worker who collapsed after inhaling fumes at a water treatment supplier in Burlington, Ont., last week has died.

Douglas Fast, president of Control Chem Canada, confirmed to CBC Hamilton that the man had died, but refused to answer other questions.

Ministry of Labour spokesperson Anuradha Dhar said in an email the worker died on Sunday.

“Our thoughts and condolences for worker’s family, friends, and loved ones,” Dhar’s email read.

It’s unclear how this will impact the company’s own investigation or the Ontario Ministry of Labour investigation into the accident.

On April 4, police and paramedics said they arrived at Control Chem on Harvester Road just before noon.

Fast previously told CBC Hamilton a production batch maker was “dispensing one material into a second larger container” when “he was overcome by fumes and fell.”

Tom Stirling, deputy chief of paramedic services in Halton, previously said the worker had “life-threatening injuries” and was taken to a local hospital.

The ministry previously said no orders or requirements have been issued to Control Chem since at least last year.
