What’s open and closed in Hamilton on Canada Day

Canada Day is Monday, which means some businesses and services will be closed or operating on special schedules.

Here are some of the changes you can expect in Hamilton.

Waste collection

There will be no garbage, recycling or compost pickup. Waste collection will resume Tuesday at 7 a.m. and  community recycling centres will be closed until Tuesday at 8 a.m.

Transit

Hamilton buses will operate on a Sunday schedule, with the last trips from downtown leaving around 10 p.m.

The HSR myRide and Route 18 Waterdown Mountaineer will not run.

The DARTS accessible transit service will be operating on a holiday schedule. Subscription trips are cancelled except for dialysis. 

GO Transit will operate on a Saturday schedule. 

Parking

The city parking system will be closed and there will be no enforcement on Monday before 10 a.m. Although, the city says “proactive enforcement” may occur for special events and “areas of interest.”

Parks and Recreation

City recreation centres will be closed Monday. Outdoor pools opened June 28 and will remain open for the holiday, weather permitting.

  • Chedoke Outdoor Pool
  • Coronation Outdoor Pool
  • Green Acres Outdoor Pool
  • Inch Park Outdoor Pool
  • Parkdale Outdoor Pool
  • Rosedale Outdoor Pool
  • Victoria Park Outdoor Pool
  • Walker Outdoor Pool

Most wading pools don’t open until July 2.

The city-run Supie drop-in recreation program and Fitness at the Park classes also start Tuesday. 

The Tropical Greenhouse at Gage Park will be closed Monday.

Trail access to Bayfront Park’s north end will be limited to prepare for Canada Day fireworks. 

Libraries

All Hamilton Public Library branches will be closed Monday.

Museums

Hamilton civic museums will be closed, but the Dundurn Castle national historic site will be presenting a Canada Day military tattoo at 5 p.m.

Hamilton Farmers’ Market

The farmers’ market downtown will be closed.

City offices

All City of Hamilton administrative offices will be closed Monday, including bylaw, housing services, animal services and transit customer service. 

The city says to call 905-546-2489 for emergencies involving roads, water mains and sewers. 

Municipal service centres will be closed Monday.
