Residents at 21 properties in Hamilton’s Ancaster area can drink water from their taps again. The city’s medical officer of health lifted a drinking water advisory on May 25, which had been in effect since May 21.
The city says Hamilton Water worked with the Ontario Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks and Hamilton Public Health Services to get a damaged watermain in good working order. This included three water samples being “confirmed safe” in a lab.
“With the Drinking Water Advisory lifted, tap water is safe to drink for the affected residences,” the city said in a news release Monday.
Hamilton Water “hand-delivered” notification to residences, the release said.
That department’s director Nick Winters said the city recognizes the “inconvenience” residents experienced.
As CBC Hamilton previously reported, the city said a contractor was working on a private sewer lateral when excavating equipment damaged the water line that services houses on Woodworth Drive East.
It was shut down right away, since losing pressure can affect water quality.
The city said Hamilton Water staff provided homes with potable water last week.
