Coverage of the CPL Final will feature CBC Sports’ Andi Petrillo leading an on-site panel alongside analysts Gareth Wheeler and Kristian Jack, who will also report from pitch-side, and former York United FC defender Jordan Wilson.
Hamilton’s Forge is looking for a fifth title — and third straight — in its sixth post-season appearance. Forge won the title in 2019, 2020, 2022 and 2023 and was runner-up in 2021. Calvary FC made it to their first final last year.
Both teams have automatically qualified for the CONCACAF Champions Cup, the highest tear in North America’s continental club soccer, after finishing the regular season in the top-two.
Forge FC head coach Bobby Smyrniotis, shut out in five previous nominations, finally won a Coach of the Year Award to go with his four Canadian Premier League titles on Thursday.
Tommy Wheeldon Jr. of Cavalry FC was nominated for the award after winning it twice before.
Tristan Borges of Forge FC was named the CPL Player of the Year for a second time. Kwasi Poku, sold by Forge to Belgium’s RWD Molenbeek for a league-record transfer in August, was chosen Best Canadian U-21 Player.
Cavalry’s Daan Klomp won Defender of the Year honours for the second season in a row. Pacific FC’s Emil Gazdov claimed the Golden Glove Award as the league’s top goalkeeper. York forward Brian Wright won the Players’ Player Award.
Tobias Warschewski, the CPL’s top scorer and a nominee for the 2024 Player of the Year award, will lead the attack for the home team in the final.
While the CPL currently has teams in eight cities (Victoria, Vancouver, Calgary, Winnipeg, Toronto, Hamilton, Ottawa and Halifax), commissioner Mark Noonan said Friday in Calgary the league intends to expand by two teams in 2026.
