Re-enactors from across Canada and the U.S. are coming to Hamilton this weekend to act out the Battle of Stoney Creek.
The festival is being held at the Battlefield House Museum & Park National Historic Site and will see people don historically accurate uniforms and use period-specific weapons to bring the battle to life.
Other activities include a 19th-century military encampment, musket and cannon demonstrations, period music and dance performances, and Indigenous programming.
The Battle of Stoney Creek took place on June 6th, 1813, and was a significant turning point in the War of 1812.
A press release from the city of Hamilton issued Monday said there will be “a narrated ‘Great Peace Game’ of Haudenosaunee Lacrosse, scheduled before each Battle Re-enactment on Saturday, June 1. After the game, the lacrosse players will be joined by Haudenosaunee singers and dancers who will share Gada:tro (Standing Quiver Dance) and the Smoke Dance, inviting audience participation.”
