Things to do in Hamilton this May long weekend

The forecast calls for three days of sun, with a high of 26 C in Hamilton this long weekend.

If you’re looking to get out and about, here’s some of what’s happening in the city:

Lilacs in peak bloom

Burlington, Ont.’s Royal Botanical Gardens (RBG) says lilac trees are in peak bloom and depending on weather, that should continue for a week. With a large lilac collection in their arboretum, the RBG offers a shuttle from their main parking lot to that off-site location.

Parking at the arboretum is available too, but you need a reservation.

Splishin’ and a splashin’

Also in Burlington, the city’s nine splash pads open on May 18. The first outdoor pool in the city opens next weekend.

Soccer

Over at Tim Hortons Field, Hamilton’s Forge FC is playing Vancouver on Saturday at 4 p.m. The team is advertising a pre-show, halftime entertainment, and games.

Poutine

A day outdoors can leave one with an appetite. At Hamilton’s Gage Park, the fries-focused Poutine Feast is on through Sunday, featuring a variety of food trucks.

Fireworks

A long weekend tradition is, of course, fireworks. In Hamilton, there will be a display at Dundas Driving Park on Sunday night, with special bus service to take people to and from.
