The public computers at Hamilton’s Central Library are usable again, and the Hamilton Public Library says staff are working to test and restore service at its remaining branches.
In an email, library spokesperson Nick Kondrat told CBC Hamilton staff will do that work “in the coming days” and the library will share updates as more services become available.
The library’s systems were among many disrupted by hackers in a February cyberattack on the City of Hamilton. The library’s website and many digital services went down, with some yet to recover.
In May, Deepthi Jayatunge, 50, told CBC Hamilton he relied on library computers for school work and connecting with family abroad. At the time, library CEO Paul Takala said for a lot of people, library computers were their only option.
Holds became available again this summer, and since July, users have been able to manage those holds online.
While photocopying and scanning are not available, printing is available at Ancaster, Barton, Central, Concession, Dundas, Locke, Kenilworth, Mount Hope, Parkdale, Red Hill, Saltfeet, Sherwood, Stoney Creek, Turner Park, Valley Park, Waterdown, and Westdale branches, Kondrat said.
The library website says public Wi-Fi is available at all branches except Ancaster.
Automatic check-ins are working.
