Police searching Chedoke trail area for 2nd suspect after man, 38, shot on west Mountain

Police continue to search around the Chedoke Radial Trail in Hamilton between the Chedoke Golf Course and Scenic Driver for someone they suspect of being involved in a shooting, asking the public to avoid the area.

Police responded to a 911 call Thursday morning from someone who had been shot near Mohawk Road W. and Juanita Drive around 7:30 a.m., Det.-Sgt. Steve Bereziuk said in a video posted on social media site, X.

First responders took the victim, a 38-year-old man, to hospital. He has non-life-threatening injuries and is in stable condition, Bereziuk said.

Police arrested a 17-year-old male nearby and recovered a gun and stolen vehicle, he added.

As of early afternoon, police continued to look for a second suspect they believed to be on or near a trail by the golf course, Bereziuk said. The service previously said its Emergency Response Team, K9 unit, Halton Police and Ontario Provincial Police were involved in the search.

Bereziuk described the suspect as a Black male, wearing a grey hoodie and dark blue pants. Police previously said he was wearing a blue surgical mask at the time of the shooting, and if anyone sees him, they should call 911.

Bereziuk said police will be in the area on the west Mountain where the shooting took place Thursday asking people for information and video.
