Niagara police say Mathew Theal, 24, is the person who died in a homicide in Welland, Ont., on Sept. 17.
On Tuesday, the Niagara Regional Police Service charged a 19-year-old Welland resident with second-degree murder in Theal’s death.
First responders found Theal with “life-threatening injuries” in a residence at Broadway and Pietz Avenue in the city’s southwest, police said in a Tuesday news release. Someone had called for an ambulance.
First responders took Theal to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, they said. Police said Theal is also from Welland.
CBC Hamilton asked police how Theal died, why they believe he was murdered, what happened leading up to his death, and if there is a connection between him and his accused killer.
Police did not respond prior to publication.
