Niagara police have laid new charges against a 49-year-old man from Welland, Ont., who was arrested earlier in October on child porn charges.
According to Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS), the man was arrested on Oct. 15 after detectives obtained a warrant to search a private residence in Welland. They seized “numerous devices capable of storing electronic data.”
The arrest followed an investigation that started in September, police say. The accused was released on bail on Oct. 16.
The initial charges were possession of child pornography and accessing child pornography, police say.
In a news release on Friday, police said the ongoing investigation found evidence to support further charges, and the man was re-arrested by detectives in Niagara Falls, Ont.
Police allege he committed the additional offences:
- Possession of child pornography
- Accessing child pornography
- Making child pornography available
- Making written child pornography
Police held the accused in custody for a video bail hearing on Friday, they said. They say the man has been actively involved in coaching minor hockey within the Niagara region.
