A worker at Hamilton steel maker ArcelorMittal Dofasco has died on the job, the company’s vice president said.
“We are devastated and this is an incredibly difficult time. We have our colleague and their family, friends and co-workers in our thoughts and our focus right now is on supporting them first and foremost,” Lisa Marcuzzi, who manages corporate affairs, said in an emailed statement Saturday night.
“We will continue to cooperate with authorities as investigations continue,” Marcuzzi added.
CBC Hamilton asked the business if leaders could share anything more about the person who died, the circumstances of their death, and how the company is following up.
Spokesperson Marie Verdun declined to answer, saying, “We are devastated. There isn’t anything more we are able to share.”
CBC Hamilton contacted the Ontario Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development, which investigates worker deaths.
The ministry did not comment prior to publication.
