Police are looking for a suspect after a shooting sent three men to hospital in Hamilton’s east end on Sunday morning.
Around 12:30 a.m., officers responded to a call near Gage Avenue N. and Cannon Street E., where they found three people with gunshot wounds, said a Hamilton police news release issued Sunday. All three were taken to hospital.
Police were able to speak to the men, who are in their 50s and know each other, Det. Sgt. Steve Bereziuk told CBC Hamilton.
He said the men are in stable condition “undergoing medical treatment,” and that police hope to speak with them more once they’re doing better.
At this point, Bereziuk said, police believe the suspected shooter came to a residence looking for one of the men and was asked to leave. “There was a disturbance … that led to the suspect firing his weapon.”
Police only have a “vague” description of the suspect at this point, which is an Asian man in his 20s, who was wearing a red hoodie and red pants, Bereziuk said.
Police still looking for suspect
It’s concerning that someone with a gun and a willingness to shoot others remains at large, Bereziuk said, but “it doesn’t appear to me that this male is randomly showing up at houses looking to shoot people.”
He said the incident appears targeted, and that police are looking for witnesses. They are also hoping people in the area near the shooting can check any security camera footage from 12 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. on June 2.
The incident marks Hamilton’s 26th shooting of the year, according to police.
