Hamilton man charged with murder in relation to body found at Pier 4 park, police say

A Hamilton man has been charged with murder, police say, in the death of Jason Gallant, whose body was found near Pier 4 park earlier this month.

Police say they executed two search warrants on Thursday evening and arrested 36-year-old Michael Castiglione, and charged him with second degree murder.

Gallant’s body was discovered on April 2, 2024 near the Leander Boat Club at Pier 4 park. The death was considered suspicious and the homicide unit began to investigate.

Gallant’s body was at the north end of the park near the water’s edge when he was found, Det. Sgt. Sarah Beck said, in a press conference the next day.

She said Gallant, a 50-year-old man from Hamilton, was found unresponsive by a woman out walking her dog. The woman called 911 at about 8 a.m. and tried to revive Gallant but he was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Beck said it’s unclear why he was near the Leander Boat Club at the time but said police believe he was there for hours and whatever happened to him occurred overnight. Police say they are not looking for additional suspects.

This is the city’s third homicide of 2024.
