Hamilton man, 19, charged after hit and run leaves cyclist in life-threatening condition

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say a 19-year-old man from Hamilton’s Dundas area has been charged after a hit and run left a cyclist in critical condition.

Police say officers, paramedics and the fire department in Norfolk County responded to a crash between a vehicle and a cyclist on Erie Boulevard in Long Point at roughly 9 p.m. Saturday.

OPP say the driver of a black 2020 Hyundai Elantra sedan hit the cyclist on Erie Boulevard and left the scene.

The cyclist faced life-threatening injuries and was taken to a trauma centre.

Hamilton police found the Hyundai and arrested the driver without incident, OPP say.

The 19-year-old was charged with dangerous operation causing bodily harm and fail to stop at accident resulting in bodily harm.

He was held in custody to appear at a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe, according to police.

Erie Boulevard was closed for several hours but has since reopened.
