Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Hamilton and much of southern Ontario.
As of Wednesday afternoon, the warning area also included Niagara, Barrie, Tillsonburg, Guelph, Oshawa the Kawarthas and many municipalities in between.
The national weather agency said there’s a chance of “severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.”
The storm is expected to arrive late afternoon into the evening.
Storm could bring wind gusts and nickel-sized hail
It may bring wind gusts up to 90 kilometres per hour, heavy downpours and nickel-sized hail.
“Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Water-related activities may be unsafe due to violent and sudden gusts of wind over bodies of water,” read the notice from Environment Canada.
“Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches.”
As of late Wednesday afternoon, Hamilton’s forecast called for between 10 and 20 millimetres of rain Wednesday night with a low of 18 C.
Thursday’s daytime forecast said rain should end in the morning with a mix of sun and cloud, and the temperature reaching a high of 23 C.
