A Brantford man is facing several charges for stealing a vehicle, crashing it and then trying to carjack an oblivious passerby who stopped to offer help.
Provincial police say it all began Monday while investigating a car theft on Old Highway 24 in Waterford.
Not long after, they received a call about a blue 2002 GMC Sierra pickup truck that had been involved in a rollover in Townsend — the same vehicle that they were looking for.
Officers scrambled to the scene and learned that following the crash, the driver of the stolen truck had attempted to unsuccessfully carjack an oblivious passerby who had pulled over to help.

Authorities say the man was “subsequently located” and taken into custody, where he damaged some OPP property and assaulted an officer.
On his persons, they found an undisclosed amount of alcohol that had been stolen earlier that day from a business in Simcoe.
He was taken into custody and charged with several criminal offences, including:
- Theft of motor vehicle (two counts);
- Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs;
- Failure or refusal to comply with demand;
- Operation while prohibited;
- Fail to comply with Probation Order;
- Theft under $5,000 – shoplifting;
- Assault;
- Assault a Peace Officer; and,
- Mischief under $5,000 (two counts).
Police say that 24-year-old Tyden Hill of Brantford will be held in custody until his he undergoes a bail hearing at a courthouse in Simcoe.
