Some Lakeshore West trips between West Harbour and Aldershot replaced by buses May 4 and 5

On May 4 and 5, some trips between Aldershot station in Burlington, Ont., and West Harbour in Hamilton will be serviced by buses, provincial transit agency Metrolinx said.

Lakeshore West trains will run every 15 minutes between Oakville and Toronto’s Union Stations, with hourly service between Oakville GO and West Harbour, as crews work on a project Metrolinx says will improve train service.

Trips to Niagara Falls will be unaffected.

These service changes are to facilitate Metrolinx’s Burloak grade separation project, the transit agency said. Metrolinx previously told CBC Hamilton the project will involve lifting the tracks so that trains cross above Burloak Drive in the future, rather than at street-level like now.

The coming months will also see weekday changes. From May 6 to June 14, the usual 10:22 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday trains from Union will depart at 10:35 p.m., arriving at Niagara Falls GO at 12:55 a.m.

Metrolinx notes some of its Lakeshore West trains from Union only go as far as Oakville and that riders may need to change trains if they wish to go further south.

The Burloak work — scheduled to be completed in 2027 — will help enable faster train service and allow for more lanes of traffic, Metrolinx said on its website. It’s part of long-term plans to allow for more frequent all-day service on the line.

On April 28, Metrolinx said, GO Transit added 300 weekly train trips, including trains every 15 minutes on the Lakeshore West line between Oakville and Union.
