A winter weather travel advisory is in effect for Hamilton, Niagara, Burlington and St. Catharines with “heavy” snowfall expected on Friday.
Environment Canada said a band of lake effect snow off Lake Ontario will continue to affect the area this morning, with accumulations of two to five centimetres expected.
“Poor visibility especially for areas near Lake Ontario could affect the morning commute,” the weather agency said.
“Motorists should expect hazardous winter driving conditions and adjust travel plans accordingly. There may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic in urban areas.”
Environment Canada is reminding drivers to slow down driving in slippery conditions, watch for taillights ahead and maintain a safe following distance.
If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance, the agency said.
Snow will taper to light flurries this morning, Environment Canada said.
