Speed enforcement camera in Vineland vandalized again

A speed enforcement camera unit was vandalized in Lincoln again Tuesday night, shortly after crews finished repairing it from a previous act of vandalism.

The camera on Victoria Avenue is one of three units that were cut down in the Niagara Region earlier this month.

The other two cameras that faced vandalism were located on Station Street and Townline Road in West Lincoln.

In each instance, someone used a grinder to cut through the metal support beam and then smashed the device’s lens.

The unit on Victoria Avenue was vandalized again, although it is not currently in active enforcement and there was no camera in the housing at the time.

The region says the cameras in West Lincoln were repaired yesterday, along with the one in Vineland, but so far haven’t faced any further damage.

The automated speed cameras have been in place since late 2023 and are rotating through Niagara’s 13 community safety zones.

There is no word yet on when another repair will be scheduled.
