‘It’s been hell’: Hamilton mother demands answers in son’s unsolved homicide

A mother is demanding answers from the police after losing her son earlier this year in a downtown Hamilton shooting.

18-year-old Alexander Circiumaru was shot and killed near the Hamilton Convention Centre at the beginning of March and police still have not made any arrests.

“It’s been hell, why somebody would shoot and kill him in broad daylight downtown in the city of Hamilton,” said Alexander’s mother, Melanie Ward.

Melanie says there is not a day that goes by when she doesn’t think of her son. She also says it’s alarming to see how many more shootings have taken place in Hamilton since her son was murdered.

“I do see that drastically since Alex was murdered how much more shootings have happened and it just seems out of control. It’s sad. It’s just heartbreaking to think the person who took Alex’s life is among the society, not behind bars where he should be.”

Alexander was shot on March 6 of this year in front of 119 King Street West in Hamilton. At that time police said Alexander was in the area for an appointment.

“Investigation revealed that the victim was walking down the sidewalk and a single shooter jumped out of a vehicle and shot several times that person then jumped back into the vehicle and fled,” said police earlier this year.

Police did release this picture of the shooter that was captured by cameras in the area but after 6 months, still no arrests have been made.

Melanie says she emails the Hamilton police weekly, but only receives a reply stating that they can’t disclose any information.
