A squirrel is to blame for a telecommunications outage that’s affecting all of Cogeco’s services in the St. Catharines region.
The telecommunications company first posted about the outage shortly after 1 p.m. Saturday, saying it had dispatched a crew to investigate the matter.
A Cogeco spokesperson said the outage has disabled all of its services in the area. The company added that its customers should ” consider the impact on 911 services ” and recommended that area residents keep their cell phones on hand in the event of an emergency.
By 4 p.m. the company had located a cut fiber line and posted a photo of the damaged wire on X, along with a photo of the “culprit.”
Our technicians have located the cut fibre (and its culprit) and are estimating the resolution to be in the late evening.
