Mountain Drive Park closed off after provincial standards not met

The City of Hamilton has blocked off the perimeter of Mountain Drive Park on the mountain after soil testing results failed to meet provincial standards.

The park is located at 935 Concession Street near the Mountain Brow trail and has been undergoing a multi-year renewal project originally expected to finish by December.

After a recent soil test failed to meet provincial standards, the city has fenced off the entire park while they fix the problem and delayed the multi-year construction now scheduled to finish by spring 2025.

Many people staying in encampments in the park will also need to relocate while the park is closed off, with city staff saying they will offer support during the eviction process.

Construction of Mountain Drive Park involved the installation of a new playground and spray pad and updated washroom facilities.
