Hamilton pool transforms into skatepark jamboree for the weekend

What was once a wading pool for kids is now the home of the 31st annual Beasley Park Amateur Skateboard Jamboree.

According to Derek Lapierre, who is running the jamboree, local skateboarders petitioned to have the park built.

“To compete a lot of skaters want to get prizes, other skaters don’t care. They are just there for the fun of it,” says Lapierre.

One of Saturday’s competitors, Hayden Hachey, sees himself in the Olympics one day.

“You might get hurt you might not. Some people have talent and some people don’t, but I think anyone can skateboard if they really try.”

The skateboard jamboree runs until 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, with an entrance fee of $10.
