Niagara police arrest 2 St. Catharines men in firearms investigation

Niagara police have arrested and charged two St. Catharines men in relation to a firearms investigation.

Detectives identified two male suspects and on July 4 received court authorization to search a residence in the area of Ontario Street and Welland Avenue.

During the search, police located and seized a .22 caliber German sports gun pistol, an unloaded Taurus G2C 9mm pistol and a magazine for the Taurus 9mm pistol loaded with seven rounds of 9mm ammunition.

Michael Mills, 43, was arrested and charged with 10 offences, including assault with a weapon, carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a loaded regulated firearm.

Mills was held in custody pending a bail hearing that was expected to take place on July 3 at the St. Catharines courthouse.

William Austin, 36, was arrested and charged with seven offences, including careless storage of a firearm, possession of a restricted or prohibited firearm without holding a licence and unauthorized possession of a prohibited device or ammunition.
